ATR42-300
---------

The ATR42 is the result of a joint programme between Aerospatiale
of France and Aeritalia (now Alenia) of Italy to produce a regional
airliner. The aircraft was launched in early 1980 and entered service
in December 1985.

Power 2 x 1800shp Pratt&Whitney Canada PW120 turboprops
Cruise speed 266kts
Range 2420nm
Service Ceiling FL250
Max takeoff wgt 36,817lbs
Max Speed 250kts IAS
Stall Speeds 102kts (clean) 84kts (full flaps)

Flying the ATR42
----------------
The airspeeds given are indicated airspeeds (IAS) so you will need to
select this option in the 'options', 'preferences', 'instruments' menu.
Takeoff and climb data is for the aircraft at maximum takeoff weight.

Take off:
Apply 2 notches of flap. Open the throttle to 95% n2 and rotate at
95kts. Gear up at 110kts and climb initially at just over 1000 fpm.
When you're clear of any ground obstructions push the nose down
slightly to reduce the climb and build up the airspeed. At 120kts
take off 1 notch of flap with the remaining notch off at 130kts.

Climb:
Maintain the throttle at 95% n2 for the climb. Trim the aircraft to
climb at 160kts IAS, initially this will give a climb rate of 1500fpm
and if you get the trim right the aircraft will hold 160kts and slowly
reduce the rate of climb without any further pilot intervention.

Cruise:
The service ceiling is FL250 but in normal operations the aircraft
will cruise under FL200. Level off and reduce the throttle to 90% n2,
this will give a cruise speed of about 266kts TAS, depending on your
altitude the IAS will be just under 200kts.

Descent:
Lower the nose and adjust the throttle to descent at 240kts IAS,
reducing this to 210kts below 10,000'. If you use the alt hold on
the a/p to descend at 1600fpm set the throttle to 80% n2 for the
initial descent and below 10,000' reduce power to 65% n2.

Holding/Approach Pattern:
Increase the throttle to 80% n2 to hold the airspeed at 180kts IAS.

Landing:
Maintain the throttle at 80% n2 and add 1 notch of flap to reduce the
airspeed and start the final descent. Gradually add more flap and lower
the gear, with full flaps and gear down you should cross the runway
threshold at between 110 - 115kts.
