Notes

SAM Colombia -Sociedad Aeronautica Medellin- was founded in 1945 and started cargo
operations within the country and to Miami using a military surplus of Curtis C46 .
In 1955 passenger services were operated by SAM in cooperation with KLM
under the name Rutas Aereas de Colombia and flying with three Douglas DC4's ,
destinations where domestic as well as international (Rio , Sao Paolo , Curacao) and
the same year an additional DC6 joined the fleet .
Unfortunately in August of 1962 RAS went out of business followed by SAM itself , approximately
one year later Avianca took control of the company and developed it into a domestic airline .
Soon at the beginning also international flights restarted to Panama and the neighbouring countries ,
in 1969 a total of four Lockeed L188 Electras were acquired from Eastern followed by other four during
the first 70' s ,
In 1977 jet age began for SAM after having taken over three Boeing B 720 from Avianca , in 1980 another
type joined the fleet : the B 727-100 .
The "three holer" soon replaced the old B 720 and became then the only type beeing operated by the company
untill about 1994/95 when the Avro RJ100 type was choosen as replacement for the
glorious B 272 .
Since 1995 the whole fleet is composed of 9 Avro RJ100 Avroliner .
During spring of 1991 reinforcement of cargo operations came through the lease of a Boeing B 707-373C ,
this ship , as the cheatline style and plane registration reveal , was in fact part of the
Florida West fleet .
N760FW corresponded to the frame number 19442 , built in 1967 for Boeing's customer 73 : World Airways .
After a period spent flying in Europe with Sobelair under registration OO-SBU it ended up with the Miami based
airline ; soon following the lease period at SAM this ship was sent to Davis-Monthan AFB were USAF took it over
in May 1992 for storage .
Very likely this frame was used for spare parts and has not been as lucky as sister ship N740FW (B 707-351C)
which , after beeing dismissed by Florida West , ended up at DAS Air Cargo -Uganda- .
